Both start the same way, with the bath and the brush out. The full groom then adds the clipper and scissor work, which is where the time goes. A haircut on a dense doodle coat is not a quick add-on to a bath, and any salon that tells you otherwise is going to rush one of the two.
Matting is not a brushing problem once it is tight to the skin. It is a pulling problem, and combing it out hurts. Caleb Smith State Park Preserve in Smithtown does not allow pets at all.
