If you live in Melville, the hard part is not finding a dog groomer. The hard part is finding one that tells you what a groom costs and lets you take an appointment without a phone call. Among fixed salons in this part of the Town of Huntington, that combination is genuinely rare. This page gives you both, up front, so you can decide in about a minute.

The short version

Bath and brush runs $35 to $120 and a full groom with haircut runs $70 to $155, both priced by your dog's weight. We are at 16 Laurel Rd in East Northport, open Tuesday through Saturday, 9am to 5pm, and you can book online.

Melville is a Town of Huntington hamlet with a ZIP of its own

Melville is an unincorporated hamlet inside the Town of Huntington, in Suffolk County. There is no village government and no village hall — it is one of eighteen unincorporated hamlets the town contains, alongside Dix Hills, Greenlawn, Elwood, Centerport, South Huntington and East Northport itself. What Melville does have is its own ZIP code, 11747, and most of it sits inside the Half Hollow Hills school district, which also covers most of Dix Hills, Wheatley Heights and parts of West Hills and South Huntington.

That combination matters more than it sounds. Melville is a real postal and school identity without being a municipality, which is a big part of why so little is written for it specifically. Most pet content produced around here is either national franchise material or aimed at Long Island as one undifferentiated place — the hamlet-level detail that would actually help you decide never gets written down.

Where we actually are

Lillian Ruff Pet Spa is at 16 Laurel Rd in East Northport, ZIP 11731 — a different hamlet in the same town, a short drive away. We are a fixed salon, not a van, and everything happens at the shop.

Grooming prices, by weight

Here is the part almost nobody publishes. Our pricing is banded by how much your dog weighs, smallest to largest, and both services are booked the same way.

ServicePublished rangeHow the price is set
Bath & brush$35 – $120By weight band, smallest dog to largest
Full groom with haircut$70 – $155By weight band, smallest dog to largest

A ten-pound dog does not pay what a ninety-pound dog pays, and neither should. The low end of each range is the smallest dogs and the high end is the largest, so if you know roughly what your dog weighs, you already know roughly where in the range you land. The full pricing is on our grooming page, published, before you talk to anyone.

Which service you want is usually simple. If the coat is short, or long but genuinely brushed out, and you just want the dog clean and tidy, that is a bath and brush. If anything needs shortening or shaping — a doodle, a shih tzu, a maltipoo, anything that keeps growing — that is a full groom with haircut.

Matting is the one thing that can change the plan

If a coat is matted tight to the skin, the humane answer is often a shorter clip than you were hoping for. We will tell you that when we see the dog, before we start, not afterward. Brushing out a pelted coat hurts, and no haircut is worth that.

Booking online at a Tuesday-to-Saturday salon

We book online. That sounds unremarkable until you look at the market: of eighteen Long Island salons audited from their own websites, only seven offered online booking at all, and only three published any pricing. The businesses that do surface for booking-convenience searches around here are almost all mobile services, and the published price ranges you find online mostly belong to mobile groomers rather than to fixed shops. If you want to see the cost and take a slot at nine at night, there is not much on offer locally.

1

Pick the service

Bath and brush, or full groom with haircut. If you are not sure, book the full groom — it is easier to do less than to do more.

2

Know your dog's weight

Weight is what sets the price band, so a rough number tells you where you sit between the low and high end of the published range.

3

Choose a day, Tuesday to Saturday

We are closed Sunday and Monday. If your only free day is Sunday, we are the wrong salon for you and it is better to know that now.

What to tell us when you book

Use the notes field. Tell us if your dog is anxious, arthritic, deaf, hard of hearing, sore in the hips, or has had a bad grooming experience somewhere before. That one line changes how the whole appointment is run — how we lift, how long we spend on the table, when we stop for a break. It costs you ten seconds and it is honestly the most useful thing you can give us.

Tell us what you want from the haircut, too, in plain words rather than breed-standard language. "Short enough that I am not brushing every day" is a more useful instruction than a style name, and it is much harder to misread.

Is a salon even the right choice for you?

Sometimes not, and it is better to say so.

You need a doorstep visitMobile grooming is a different service with different pricing, and there are several operators covering this area. If the dog cannot travel, book one of those instead.
You want the price before you commitThat is what we publish. Both ranges are on the grooming page and they are set by weight, not by negotiation.
You need daycare or boardingNot available at East Northport. Our Ronkonkoma salon does both.
Sunday is your only free dayThen this location will not work. East Northport runs Tuesday to Saturday only.

What this location does not offer

Worth reading before you drive over, because two of these come up constantly.

At East Northport

  • Bath and brush
  • Full grooming with haircut
  • Online booking with published prices
  • Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm

Not at this location

  • Daycare — our Ronkonkoma salon has it, this one does not
  • Overnight boarding — same, Ronkonkoma only
  • A retail shop
  • Cat grooming, anywhere
  • Creative coloring or show grooming

Our other salon, in Ronkonkoma at 835 Portion Rd, is open seven days and does offer daycare, boarding and retail alongside grooming. If what you actually need is somewhere for the dog to stay while you travel, book there rather than here.

Finding us: 16 Laurel Rd, East Northport

We are on Laurel Road in East Northport, 11731. East Northport is a hamlet of about 20,000 people bordered by Northport to the north, Commack to the south, Greenlawn to the west and Fort Salonga to the east, with Larkfield Road as its main commercial spine. The Northport LIRR station, despite the name, physically sits in East Northport at Larkfield Road and Bellerose Avenue.

One more East Northport thing worth knowing if you live in Melville: the Town of Huntington's off-leash dog run is here too, at the Town Animal Shelter, 106 Deposit Rd, East Northport. It is open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and weekends 9am to 4pm, entry needs a free Town-issued permit, and the dog has to be licensed, spayed or neutered, current on rabies and at least four months old, with a maximum of two dogs per visit. Melville is in the Town of Huntington, so residency is not the obstacle.

You should be able to see the price and take the appointment without a phone call. That is the whole idea.

Questions people actually ask

Do you come to Melville?

No. We are a fixed salon at 16 Laurel Rd in East Northport and we do not run a mobile van. Several mobile services cover this part of the town if that is what you need — it is a genuinely different service, priced differently, and if a doorstep visit is the requirement, book one of those instead.

What will my dog actually cost?

It depends on weight. Bath and brush falls between $35 and $120, and a full groom with haircut falls between $70 and $155, with the figure set by your dog's weight band. The pricing is published on our grooming page rather than quoted only over the phone.

Are you open Sundays or Mondays?

No. East Northport runs Tuesday through Saturday, 9am to 5pm — five operating days. Our Ronkonkoma salon is open seven days.

Can I just walk in for a nail trim?

We work by appointment. Book the visit rather than turning up, and you will not lose the trip.

My dog is old and does not love being handled. Is that a problem?

Not a problem, but tell us in the booking notes. Senior dogs often do better with a shorter, simpler visit than a full styling session, and we would rather plan for that than discover it halfway through.

You found a lump or a sore spot — what happens?

We tell you what we saw and where. We are groomers, not veterinarians, so we do not diagnose or treat anything. Anything unusual on the skin, in the ears or around the nails should go to your vet.
