Two towns, one appointment: where Kings Park and Fort Salonga sit
East Northport is a hamlet and census-designated place in the Town of Huntington, Suffolk County — 5.15 square miles, 20,048 people at the 2020 census, ZIP 11731. It is bordered by Northport to the north, Commack to the south, Greenlawn to the west and Fort Salonga to the east. So if you are in Fort Salonga, we are the next place over.
Fort Salonga is the more complicated of the two, because it straddles a town line. Part of it sits in the Town of Huntington and part of it sits on the Smithtown side. The clearest way to feel that split is school district: a large part of Fort Salonga is served by the Northport-East Northport district, while the Smithtown-side portion is served by Kings Park schools, with Bread and Cheese Hollow Road as the boundary between them.
Kings Park is squarely on the Smithtown side and has its own district, Kings Park CSD, which also picks up that Smithtown-side slice of Fort Salonga. It is a short drive to us either way.
None of that changes anything about booking a groom — there is no residency requirement on a grooming appointment, and we do not ask which side of Bread and Cheese Hollow Road you live on. It matters for exactly one thing locally, and we will get to it below.
A quirk worth knowing when you are giving someone directions: the Northport LIRR station is physically in East Northport, at Larkfield Road and Bellerose Avenue, on the Port Jefferson Branch. We are on Laurel Road, not Larkfield — two different roads, and people mix them up.
Our prices, published by weight
We publish them. That is less common around here than it should be — of 18 Long Island salons audited from their own websites, only 3 published any pricing at all and only 7 offered online booking, and no salon-based groomer in the Huntington, East Northport or Commack area publishes prices publicly. That does not make us better at grooming. It just means you can plan before you get in the car.

The range is weight, smallest dogs at the bottom of each band and largest at the top, with everything in between landing where you would expect. A ten-pound Maltipoo and an eighty-pound doodle are not the same amount of bathing, drying or brushing, and a single flat price just means somebody is quietly subsidizing somebody else.
One honest note on the number: coat condition, not the breed name, drives most of the time on the table. A well-kept double coat can be quicker than a neglected small dog, and a badly matted coat is a conversation we have with you before we start, not after.
Tuesday to Saturday, 9 to 5, grooming only
Five operating days a week at this location. Closed Sunday and Monday. If you are coming from the Smithtown side, that is worth knowing from a web page rather than from a locked door.
"Grooming only" is the other thing to be straight about. East Northport does not do daycare, does not do overnight boarding, and has no retail shop. Our Ronkonkoma salon does all three and is open seven days — so if what you actually need is somewhere for the dog to stay, that is the location to look at, not this one.

The one place the town line actually bites
The Town of Huntington runs a small off-leash dog run — roughly two-thirds of an acre, with waste stations, a shade pavilion and running water — at the Town Animal Shelter, 106 Deposit Road, East Northport 11731, the same hamlet and ZIP as the salon. It is open Monday to Friday 8 to 6 and weekends 9 to 4, and the permit is free.
Free, but not open to everyone. The permit requires Huntington residency, a licensed dog, current rabies, a dog at least four months old, and a maximum of two dogs per visit. Fort Salonga families on the Huntington side qualify. Kings Park, being Smithtown, does not — and neither does the Smithtown-side slice of Fort Salonga. Worth checking before you drive over with a hopeful dog in the back.
Part of Fort Salonga is Huntington and part is Smithtown. Your dog does not care. The dog-run permit does.
A few other rules save a wasted trip on either side of the line. Caleb Smith State Park Preserve in Smithtown bans pets outright — it is a passive preserve, no dogs, no bikes, no picnics. Sunken Meadow allows leashed dogs only in the undeveloped eastern portion, and not on the beaches, boardwalks, playgrounds, golf course or in buildings. And in the Town of Huntington, dogs are prohibited from all town beaches except paved areas and boardwalks, with leashes 6 feet or shorter. Named on-leash town trails include Phragmites Park on Fort Salonga Road in Centerport and the Jerome Ambro Memorial Wetlands Preserve on Seaside Court in Northport.
What a groomer notices, and what a groomer must not diagnose
A groom is one of the few appointments where somebody has their hands on every inch of your dog. We find things: ticks, lumps, hot spots, ear gunk, sore nail beds, a mat sitting tight against skin. Our job is to tell you plainly what we found and where. It is not to name it or treat it — anything that looks medical goes to your vet, full stop.
Ticks are the one worth planning around out here. New York State's health department runs deer-tick surveillance in two fixed windows: nymphs from May through September and adults from October through December. In Suffolk in 2025, nymph density measured 61.04 ticks per 1,000 square meters with 26.6% carrying the Lyme bacterium; among adults collected that October to December, 52.8% tested positive — roughly double.
Some perspective, because the local reputation runs hotter than the data. Suffolk is not the worst county in New York for tick density — it ranked 8th for nymphs in 2025, well behind Orange, Oneida and Dutchess. Suffolk does lead the state in raw Lyme case count, 3,152 in 2024, but that is partly a function of how many people live here. Neither fact is a reason to skip prevention.
Prevention and tick removal are veterinary decisions. Ask your vet what your dog should be on. We will tell you what we found and where — that is where our end of it stops.

Do I have to be a Huntington resident to book?
No. There is no residency requirement on a grooming appointment — Kings Park, Smithtown-side Fort Salonga, Huntington-side Fort Salonga, all the same to us. The town line only matters for the free town dog-run permit at 106 Deposit Road, which does require Huntington residency.
Is East Northport far from Kings Park or Fort Salonga?
Fort Salonga borders East Northport directly, so for much of that hamlet it is very close. Kings Park is a short drive. We would rather you check the map yourself than take our word for a travel time.

Can I leave my dog for the day while I'm at work?
Not at East Northport — this location is grooming only, with no daycare and no boarding. Our Ronkonkoma salon offers daycare and overnight boarding and is open seven days.
My dog is badly matted. Will you shave him?
Sometimes that is the kind thing to do, and we will say so before we start rather than handing you a surprise at pickup. Dematting a tight coat pulls on skin, and there is a point past which brushing it out is worse for the dog than starting fresh. Any skin that looks irritated underneath is a conversation for your vet, not for us.
