If you live in Elwood or Greenlawn and you are shopping for a groomer, you are really asking three things: what does it cost, when are they open, and can I book without playing phone tag. Here are our answers, in that order, with nothing held back for a "call for a quote."
Lillian Ruff Pet Spa is at 16 Laurel Rd in East Northport. Greenlawn borders East Northport on the west side, and Elwood is a short drive away in the same town. A bath and brush runs $35 to $120 and a full groom with haircut runs $70 to $155, both set by your dog's weight. We are open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 to 5, and you can book online.
Elwood, Greenlawn and East Northport: one town, three districts
Elwood, Greenlawn and East Northport are all unincorporated hamlets in the Town of Huntington, in Suffolk County — the eleventh most populous town in New York State, with roughly 204,000 residents across four incorporated villages and eighteen hamlets. We share a town government, a town shelter and one set of park rules, even though the mailing addresses and the school districts differ.
East Northport is bordered by Northport to the north, Commack to the south, Greenlawn to the west and Fort Salonga to the east. Elwood is not on that border list, but it is in the same town and close enough that plenty of our appointments come from there.
The school districts are what make these places feel separate: Elwood has its own, Elwood UFSD; large parts of Greenlawn sit in Harborfields CSD; East Northport is served by Northport–East Northport UFSD. Three districts, one town. The train confuses people too — Greenlawn's LIRR station is the next stop west of the Northport station on the Port Jefferson Branch, and the Northport station, despite the name, physically sits in East Northport at Larkfield Road and Bellerose Avenue.
The Town of Huntington runs a free-permit off-leash dog run at the Town Animal Shelter, 106 Deposit Rd, East Northport — roughly two-thirds of an acre with waste stations, a shade pavilion and running water. Because Elwood and Greenlawn are in the same town, residents there qualify too. Permits are free but require Huntington residency, a licensed dog, current rabies vaccination and a dog at least four months old; two dogs per visit is the limit, and you collect the permit at the shelter office. For on-leash walking, Frazer Drive Park in Greenlawn is one of the town's named dog-walking spots.
Our prices, by weight
We price by weight because weight is the honest proxy for how long a groom takes. A 12-pound Maltese and a 70-pound golden get the same care; one of them just takes far longer to dry. Coat type matters too, which is why each service is a range rather than a single number.

The low end of each range is the smallest dogs and the high end is the largest, with everything in between banded by weight. So the useful thing to sort out before you book is roughly what your dog weighs.
Publishing any of this is unusual around here. In an audit of 18 Long Island salons' own websites, only three published pricing at all and only seven offered online booking, and among fixed-location salons in the Huntington, East Northport and Commack area we could not find one that lists prices on its site. If you are comparison shopping from Elwood or Greenlawn, a published number is the only thing that lets you compare anything before you commit.
A severely matted coat is the exception to all of the above. Matting pulls at the skin and cannot be safely brushed out past a certain point, so the welfare answer is often a short shave-down rather than the haircut you had in mind. If we see that when your dog arrives, we will show you, explain the options and agree a plan with you before anything gets clipped. We will never do it silently and tell you afterward.
Tuesday to Saturday, 9 to 5, grooming only
Five operating days a week, and we would rather you knew the closed ones before you drive over. If Sunday is the only day that works for your household, we are not your salon, and that is a fine thing to learn from a web page instead of a locked door.
East Northport is a grooming salon and nothing else — no daycare, no overnight boarding, no retail shop. If you need boarding or daycare as well, our Ronkonkoma salon at 835 Portion Rd offers all of that alongside grooming and is open seven days a week: a short drive, but a real one, so weigh it against simply booking grooming here.

Decide bath and brush or full groom
If your dog has a haircut coat — doodle, poodle, shih tzu, terrier — you want the full groom. Short smooth coats usually need only the bath and brush.
Know roughly what your dog weighs
Weight is what sets the price band, so an honest number is what makes the published range mean something for your dog rather than for dogs in general.
Pick a day between Tuesday and Saturday
Everything here runs by appointment, so choose the slot that suits your week rather than hoping to squeeze in on the way past.
Brush out what you can beforehand
Not a test, and not required. But a coat brushed through at home in the days before an appointment gives us more options on the day, especially with doodles.
If your dog does not need a haircut, do not pay for one. Book the bath and brush and keep the difference.
Questions people actually ask
How much will my goldendoodle cost?
A doodle needs the full groom with haircut, which runs $70 to $155 depending on weight. A small doodle sits near the bottom of that range and a large standard-sized one near the top. If the coat is heavily matted we will talk to you before we start, because matting changes what is physically possible, not just what it costs.
Should I just use a mobile groomer instead?
Genuinely worth considering, and several mobile services cover this area. We are not going to quote you someone else's prices — ask them directly, and compare against our published bands. What we will say is that a van is a different product: you are paying for the travel and the equipment as well as the groom. If getting there is the obstacle, that trade can be worth it. If it is not, a salon appointment usually costs less.
Can I walk in for a nail trim?
No — we work by appointment, and nails are included in both the bath and brush and the full groom. If a nail trim today is genuinely all you need, some places do take walk-ins for that — ring ahead and confirm rather than driving over on spec. We would rather tell you that than waste your afternoon.
Do you groom cats?
No. Dogs only. A vet practice or a cat-specific groomer is the right call there.
Will you tell me if you find a tick or a lump?
Yes. Hands go over every inch of a dog during a groom, so we notice ticks, hot spots, ear odor, skin changes and lumps, and we will always tell you what we found and where. What we will not do is diagnose or treat it — that is your vet's job, and we will say so plainly. Worth knowing locally: New York State tracks deer tick nymphs from May through September and adult ticks from October through December, and in 2025 Suffolk County adult ticks tested positive for the bacterium that causes Lyme at roughly double the nymph rate.
How often should my dog come in?
It depends on coat, not calendar. Haircut coats that mat — doodles, poodles, shih tzus — generally need a haircut cycle plus brushing at home in between. Short smooth coats often need nothing more than an occasional bath and regular nails. Tell us your dog's coat and how much brushing actually happens at home, and we will give you a straight answer, including "less often than you think."
