Dog Grooming for Dix Hills, NY: Prices, Hours & Booking

"Dog grooming Dix Hills" is a real search — Google's own autocomplete offers it, the same way it offers Commack, Melville, Huntington and Kings Park. What is harder to find is a page that simply says what a groom costs, when a salon is open, and how to book one without a phone call. So here is that page, written by the people who would be doing the grooming.

Dix Hills is a hamlet, and that explains more than it should

The Town of Huntington contains four incorporated villages — Asharoken, Huntington Bay, Lloyd Harbor and Northport — and eighteen unincorporated hamlets. Dix Hills is one of the hamlets. There is no Dix Hills village hall and no Dix Hills mayor.

What defines the place instead is a patchwork of district boundaries that do not agree with each other. Half Hollow Hills Central School District serves most of Dix Hills, along with Melville, Wheatley Heights and parts of West Hills and South Huntington. But Commack School District also takes in portions of Dix Hills. Even the school your children walk into does not reliably tell you where the hamlet ends.

None of that bothers a dog. It bothers your search results, because a hamlet with no legal outline is one a search engine has to guess at.

Why nobody local answers the question

We can only speak to the search we have looked at closely, which is our own. Type "dog groomer East Northport NY" and the whole first page of organic results is directories and homepages — Yelp, Care.com, Nextdoor, a veterinary hospital, a handful of salon and mobile-groomer sites. Not one editorial page. Nobody here has written the article; there are only listings.

That is not laziness on anyone's part, it is how the trade works around here. Of the salon-based groomers in Huntington, East Northport and Commack, essentially none publish a price list and most do not run a blog at all. So the person trying to plan a Saturday morning ends up calling around, asking the same three questions each time.

Bath and brush, or a full groom

Publishing prices at all is unusual here. Of 18 Long Island salons audited from their own websites, only 7 offered online booking and only 3 published any pricing. We do both, so you can decide whether we are worth the drive before you get in the car.

Both are banded by weight, smallest dogs at the bottom of the range and largest at the top. The band is about the dog on the table: a heavier dog is more coat to wash, more water to dry and more time on the arm. It is not a surcharge on breed, and it is not a number invented at the counter.

Choosing between the two is usually simple. If the coat sheds and never gets long enough to need cutting, the haircut price is not for you and you should not pay it. If the coat keeps growing, a full groom is what stops the problem below from happening.

What we do here, and what we don't

Two honest caveats. Daycare, boarding and retail all exist at our Ronkonkoma salon on Portion Rd, open seven days — if that is what you actually need, go there rather than here. And if the only thing your dog needs is nails, we run by appointment; some of the bigger chain salons in the wider Huntington and Commack area do take walk-ins for nails. Ring ahead and confirm rather than driving over on spec — if a walk-in is the point, that may suit you better than waiting for an appointment here.

Ticks, and why a wooded walk changes the brush-out

The Town of Huntington lists the Dix Hills Park Woodland Trail, on Veterans Memorial Highway, among its named on-leash dog-walking trails. Leashes have to be six feet or shorter, and dogs stay off town beaches except paved areas and boardwalks.

If a woodland trail is part of your week, it is worth knowing the calendar the state works to. The New York State Department of Health splits its deer-tick surveillance into two fixed windows: nymphs from May to September, adults from October to December. In Suffolk County in 2025, nymph density measured 61.04 ticks per 1,000 square meters, with 26.6% carrying the bacterium that causes Lyme. Among adult ticks collected that October to December, 52.8% tested positive — roughly double the nymph rate.

A brush-out is not a tick treatment. It is a set of hands going over every inch of your dog, which is how things get found.

Prevention is a conversation with your vet, not with us. But a groom is the one appointment where somebody systematically touches the whole dog, and in a county with this much tick pressure that counts for something.

Hours, and booking it

East Northport is open Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm — five operating days. If you are reading this on a Sunday afternoon, we are shut, and no amount of wanting it makes us otherwise. Ronkonkoma runs seven days, 9am to 5pm, if the weekend is your only window.

That third step matters more than people expect. "Groomer for anxious dogs", "for senior dogs", "for reactive dogs" are among the most common things people type into a search box — usually by somebody who had a bad experience somewhere and does not want to relive it at a counter. You do not have to. Put it in the notes.
