Dog Grooming for Deer Park, NY: Prices, Hours & Booking
Lillian Ruff Pet Spa
If you are looking for a groomer from Deer Park, the practical questions are the same three every time: what does it cost, when are they open, and how do I book. Our salon is at 16 Laurel Rd in East Northport, we have no service area and no residency rule, and the prices are published rather than quoted after the fact. Here is the whole picture before you get in the car, including the two or three local things that catch people out.
Prices are published by weight rather than quoted at pickup. Booking is online, not a phone message and a callback. East Northport is a grooming salon and nothing else — no daycare, no boarding, no shop, no cats.
Where the salon actually sits
East Northport is a hamlet and census-designated place in the Town of Huntington, Suffolk County — unincorporated, ZIP 11731, about 5.15 square miles and just over 20,000 people, bordered by Northport to the north, Commack to the south, Greenlawn to the west and Fort Salonga to the east. Larkfield Road is its commercial spine, and the hamlet got its name after the railroad moved the Northport station east in 1868 and conductors started calling it east of Northport. The station is still physically in East Northport, at Larkfield Road and Bellerose Avenue on the Port Jefferson Branch.
None of that changes what a groom costs, and there is no catchment rule — you can book from wherever you live. It does matter for two things that come up constantly for dog owners, because a hamlet is not a unit of government and the rules around here are set at the town, county and state level instead.
People underestimate how tangled that gets locally. Commack, one hamlet with one ZIP, is split between the Town of Huntington and the Town of Smithtown along Townline Road. Fort Salonga is only partly in Huntington. Whole streets are served by a different school district than the one people assume. "Which town am I in" is a real question here, not a technicality.
The Town of Huntington runs a free off-leash dog run at its Animal Shelter, 106 Deposit Road, East Northport 11731 — the same hamlet and ZIP as the salon. It is roughly two-thirds of an acre with waste stations, a shade and rain pavilion and running water, open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am to 4pm. The permit is free but it requires Town of Huntington residency, so it is not open to everyone who can reach it. Your dog also has to be licensed, spayed or neutered, rabies-current and at least four months old, two dogs per visit, and permits are collected at the shelter office past the dog park. Worth checking your eligibility before you plan a trip around it rather than in the parking lot.
The second thing is beaches and parks. Town of Huntington code keeps dogs off all town beaches except paved areas and boardwalks, and its parks are on-leash with a maximum six-foot leash. Huntington names a short list of on-leash walking trails — Jerome Ambro Memorial Wetlands Preserve in Northport, the Dix Hills Park Woodland Trail, the upper paved path at Sunshine Acres Park in Commack, Frazer Drive Park in Greenlawn and Phragmites Park in Centerport. Those are Huntington's rules for Huntington's land. Your own town sets its own rules for its own parks, so check there rather than assuming these carry across.
Caleb Smith State Park Preserve in Smithtown bars pets outright. Sunken Meadow allows leashed dogs only in the undeveloped eastern portion — not on beaches, boardwalks, playgrounds or in buildings. Town, county and state land are not the same rules.
One thing that follows from all that walking: ticks. New York State's own deer-tick surveillance splits the year into nymphs from May to September and adults from October to December. In Suffolk County in 2025, nymph density measured 61.04 ticks per 1,000 square meters, with 26.6 percent carrying the bacterium behind Lyme disease; among adults collected that October to December, 52.8 percent tested positive. A groomer's hands go over every inch of a dog, so we find ticks, and when we do we tell you and tell you to speak to your vet. We do not diagnose and we do not treat.
Nobody around here publishes a price
If you have searched "dog groomer Deer Park" you already know what comes back: directory listings and salon homepages. We ran the same search for East Northport, and every organic result was a directory, a social profile or a competitor's own front page. Nothing that answered the question.
Pricing is the clearest example. Across the salon-based groomers we could find websites for around Huntington, East Northport and Commack, not one published a price. In a wider read of 18 Long Island salon websites, only 3 published any pricing at all and only 7 offered online booking. So here is the number.
How weight-based grooming pricing works
| Service | What it is | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Bath & brush | Wash, dry and brush-out. No haircut. | $35 – $120 |
| Full groom | Bath, dry and a haircut. | $70 – $155 |
Those are the full published ranges, not starting prices. Where a dog lands inside the range is set by weight, smallest to largest — a small dog sits near the bottom, a large breed near the top. Weight is the honest variable because weight is what actually decides the afternoon: how much water and drying time, how much coat, how much lifting, how long a dog has to stand.
A price you can read before you book is worth more than a price you are told afterwards.
The one thing that genuinely changes the plan is matting. If a coat has gone past brushable and felted down against the skin, the realistic outcome is a shorter cut than the one you had in mind. Combing tight mats out inch by inch is uncomfortable in a way a clipper is not, and a groomer who promises to rescue a badly matted coat is promising it at the dog's expense. Say it when you book rather than at drop-off, and ask any groomer you are considering how they handle it — the answer tells you a lot.

Online booking and Tuesday-to-Saturday hours
East Northport runs Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, and is closed Sunday and Monday. Five operating days. That matters more when you are driving in than when you live around the corner, because a wasted trip is a wasted trip — if Sunday is the only day that works for your household, this salon is not the answer, and our Ronkonkoma salon at 835 Portion Rd is open seven days, 9am to 5pm.

Services and published prices sit together on our grooming page.
Pick the service and your dog's weight
Bath and brush, or a full groom with a haircut. Answer the weight question honestly rather than optimistically — that is what sets the price.
Choose a day the salon is open
Tuesday through Saturday. Booking runs online, so you can do it at eleven at night if that is when you remember.
Tell us the coat condition
When the dog was last brushed all the way to the skin, when the last groom was, anything sore, and the finish you want in inches or a photo.
Everything here runs on booked appointments. We do not advertise walk-in, same-day, emergency or after-hours grooming. If what you need is something today with no appointment, we are the wrong answer, and it is better you hear that here than at the door.

Questions people actually ask
Do you take dogs from Deer Park?
Yes. There is no service area, no residency rule and no catchment. You book a slot like anyone else and bring the dog to 16 Laurel Rd, East Northport 11731.
Can I use the Deposit Road dog run when I come over?
Only if you are a Town of Huntington resident — the free permit is residency-based, and it also requires a licensed, spayed or neutered, rabies-current dog at least four months old. The full conditions are in the box further up this page.
Are you open Sunday or Monday?
Not in East Northport. This salon is Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm. Our Ronkonkoma salon at 835 Portion Rd is open seven days, 9am to 5pm.
What will my dog actually cost?
Bath and brush runs $35 to $120 and a full groom with a haircut runs $70 to $155, set by weight. Pick your dog's weight on the grooming page and you will see the number before you commit to anything.
Can I leave the dog for the day or overnight?
Not here. East Northport is grooming only. Ronkonkoma has daycare, boarding and a shop.
Which of your two salons should I use?
Both are a drive, and we are not going to guess your route. If you only want the dog groomed, either works. If you want grooming plus daycare, boarding or a Sunday appointment, book Ronkonkoma.
