Where Cold Spring Harbor sits, and why that muddles a search
Cold Spring Harbor is one of the eighteen unincorporated hamlets in the Town of Huntington, which puts it in Suffolk County. East Northport is another of those hamlets, so we share a town with you. Huntington is a big place to share — 204,127 people, the eleventh most populous town in New York State — and inside it sit four incorporated villages as well: Asharoken, Huntington Bay, Lloyd Harbor and Northport.
The boundaries in this part of Long Island genuinely do not line up with one another. Commack, a little to the south of us, is split down the middle by Townline Road between the Towns of Huntington and Smithtown, and different pieces of it are served by five different school districts. Harborfields Central School District covers all of Centerport plus large parts of Greenlawn and Huntington. Town line, school line and ZIP line are three different maps, and none of them describe how you actually get anywhere.
What that means in practice is small but real: a search engine deciding what is "near" you has to guess, and it guesses from a point on a map. So a Cold Spring Harbor search can return a salon in one direction, a van based somewhere else entirely, and a national price calculator, all on the same screen.
One genuinely useful side effect of being a Huntington hamlet: the Town runs a free-permit off-leash dog run at the Animal Shelter, 106 Deposit Rd, East Northport — open Mon–Fri 8am–6pm and Sat/Sun 9am–4pm. Permits are free but require Town residency, a licensed dog, and current rabies vaccination, and you pick them up at the shelter office past the dog park. The reason is simple: hardly anyone local publishes anything. Among salon-based groomers in Huntington, East Northport and Commack, we could not find a single one that publishes its prices on its own website. Most have no blog at all. The businesses that do publish ranges are the mobile groomers, which is why they keep turning up when you are trying to price a salon visit.

Both services are priced by weight, smallest to largest. We do not have a secret rate for out-of-town dogs, and there is no difference in price whether you come from Cold Spring Harbor, Greenlawn or two streets over.

Online booking is less common around here than you would think. Of eighteen Long Island salons we checked from their own websites, only seven let you book online at all and only three published any pricing. If you have been calling around and getting answering machines, that is why.
Coats we handle, and the ones we do not
Doodles and other continuously growing coats are the bulk of the haircut work. Double coats — shepherds, huskies, goldens — get bathed, dried properly and brushed out rather than shaved. Short coats get a bath and brush and are usually in and out fastest.
We do not groom cats, we do not do creative coloring or show trims, and East Northport is a grooming salon only — no daycare, no boarding, no shop. Our Ronkonkoma location at 835 Portion Rd does offer daycare, overnight boarding and retail, and is open seven days.
A groom is often the only time someone goes over every inch of your dog. If we find a lump, a hot spot, an ear that smells wrong, or an embedded tick, we will tell you what we felt and where — and then you should take that to your vet. We do not diagnose and we do not treat. Worth knowing locally: in Suffolk County in 2025, 26.6% of nymph-stage deer ticks sampled carried the bacterium that causes Lyme, and 52.8% of adults collected from October to December did.
A published price and an open calendar are not marketing. They are just the two things you wanted before you picked up the phone.

Is it worth driving from Cold Spring Harbor when there are groomers closer?
Sometimes it is not, and we would rather say so. If your dog only needs nails done, that is a small job, and it is not worth going out of your way for — use whoever is closest to you and check with them first. Come to us for a full salon groom on a dog whose coat needs real drying and scissoring, or when you want to know the price before you commit.

No. Grooming here is dogs only.
Can I get a Sunday or Monday appointment?
Not in East Northport — we are open Tuesday to Saturday, 9 to 5, five days a week. Our other salon, in Ronkonkoma at 835 Portion Rd, is open seven days, so that is the option if a weekend slot is the only thing that works for you.
How do I know what my dog will actually cost?

My doodle is matted. Will you shave him?
If a coat is matted down to the skin, brushing it out is painful and slow and not the kind thing to do to a dog. In that case the honest answer is a shorter cut than you wanted, and we will say that up front rather than halfway through. A coat that is only starting to felt at the armpits and behind the ears is usually saveable.
Do you take walk-ins or same-day appointments?
No. Everything is booked ahead, which is also why the online calendar is worth two minutes of your evening.
