Dog Groomer for Commack, NY: Prices, Hours and Booking
Lillian Ruff Pet Spa
Commack borders East Northport to the south, and our salon sits at 16 Laurel Rd on the East Northport side of that line. If you are looking for a groomer for a Commack dog, this page gives you the three things that are hardest to find on a grooming website: what it costs, what we actually do at this location, and how to book without a phone call.
Our prices are published by weight rather than quoted over the phone, and appointments are booked online instead of by leaving a message. East Northport is a grooming salon and nothing else — no daycare, no boarding, no shop.
Which side of Townline Road are you on?
Commack is one hamlet with one ZIP code, 11725, and about 36,500 people. But it is not one town. Townline Road splits it: addresses on one side are in the Town of Huntington, addresses on the other are in the Town of Smithtown. Most Commack kids are in the Commack School District, but parts of the hamlet fall into Northport-East Northport, Hauppauge, Smithtown or Kings Park districts instead.
None of that changes what a groom costs. It does change a couple of things dog owners in Commack run into.
The Town of Huntington runs an off-leash dog run at the Town Animal Shelter, 106 Deposit Road, East Northport 11731 — the same hamlet and ZIP as our salon. It is open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am to 4pm. Entry needs a Town-issued permit. The permit is free, but it is for Town of Huntington residents with a licensed, spayed or neutered, rabies-current dog at least four months old, and it is two dogs per visit. So which side of Townline Road your mail goes to genuinely decides whether you qualify. If you are not certain which town your address falls in, worth settling that before you drive over with the dog in the back.
A second quirk worth knowing, because it trips up newcomers: Commack has no LIRR station of its own, and the station called Northport is not in Northport. It sits in East Northport, at Larkfield Road and Bellerose Avenue. Larkfield Road is East Northport's main commercial street, and the hamlet only got its name after the railroad moved that station east in 1868 and conductors started calling it east of Northport.
Our prices, by weight
Here is the part almost nobody in this area publishes. When we checked the websites of the salon-based groomers around Huntington, East Northport and Commack, we could not find posted prices on any of them. In a wider audit of 18 Long Island salons, read from their own sites, only 3 published any pricing at all and only 7 offered online booking. On Long Island the businesses that do publish ranges are mostly mobile services, not fixed salons.
| Service | What it is | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Bath & brush | Wash, dry and brush-out. No haircut. | $35 – $120 |
| Full groom | Bath, dry and a haircut. | $70 – $155 |
Those are real ranges, not starting prices with an asterisk. Where your dog lands inside the range is set by weight, smallest to largest — a 12-pound dog sits near the bottom of the range and a large breed near the top. Nothing about that is a judgment call made after the fact.
Weight is the honest variable. A 12-pound dog and a 90-pound dog are not the same afternoon.
The comparison people usually want next is the chain salons at Huntington and Commack, and we will not pretend to quote someone else's price list. What we can say is that if you are trying to compare, you can only compare against a number that is actually written down. That is the reason ours is.
Matting is the one thing that changes the plan
Worth saying out loud, because it is the most common surprise in this job: if a coat has gone past brushable into properly matted, the realistic outcome is a shorter cut than the one you had in mind. Matting sits pulled tight against skin, and combing it out inch by inch is uncomfortable for the dog in a way that a clipper simply is not. A groomer who promises to save a badly matted coat is promising you something at the dog's expense.
That is a conversation worth having when you book rather than at pickup. Doodle coats in particular go from fine to felted faster than owners expect, usually underneath — behind the ears, in the armpits, along the collar line — while the top still looks perfectly good.

East Northport is grooming only
We would rather tell you this before you drive over than after. The Laurel Road salon does grooming and nothing else. If what you actually need is somewhere for the dog to spend the day or the night, that is our Ronkonkoma salon, not this one.
East Northport — 16 Laurel Rd
- Bath and brush, priced by weight
- Full grooms with a haircut
- Prices published, booking online
- Grooming only — nothing else on site
Ronkonkoma — 835 Portion Rd
- Grooming, same service
- Daycare
- Overnight boarding
- Retail, and open seven days, 9am to 5pm
Ronkonkoma is a short drive from Commack. If you want grooming and boarding in the same trip, book there. If you only want the dog groomed, East Northport is the nearer of the two salons.
What to tell us when you book
None of this is a form to dread. It is the handful of things that decide whether the appointment goes the way you pictured it.
Booking without a phone call
Most groomers around here still run on a phone call or a request form, so a callback sits between you and an appointment. Ours does not work that way.
Open the grooming page
Everything runs from our grooming page — the services and the published prices are in one place.
Pick the service and your dog's size
Bath and brush, or a full groom with a haircut. Weight sets the price, so answer that honestly rather than optimistically.
Choose a day the salon is running
Booking is online rather than by phone, so you can do it at eleven at night if that is when you remember.
Confirm
That is the appointment settled from your phone, without a message left on an answering machine.
We do not advertise walk-in, same-day, emergency or after-hours grooming — including standalone walk-in nail trims. If that is all you need today, ring around first — some places do take them, but confirm rather than assume. If that is what you need today, we are the wrong answer, and it is better that you know now than at the door.
Questions people actually ask
Do you take Commack dogs, or only East Northport?
Anyone. Commack borders East Northport to the south, and we are at 16 Laurel Rd, East Northport 11731. There is no service area or catchment rule — you book a slot like anybody else.
Are you open Sundays?
Not in East Northport. This salon runs Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, and is closed Sunday and Monday. Our Ronkonkoma salon at 835 Portion Rd is open seven days, 9am to 5pm.
Can I leave my dog for the day, or overnight?
Not at East Northport — this location is grooming only, with no daycare and no boarding. Ronkonkoma has both.
I live in Commack. Can I use the Deposit Road dog run?
It depends which side of Townline Road you are on, because the permit is a Town of Huntington one. The conditions are in the box further up this page.
My dog is matted. Will you still take him?
Yes, and tell us before the appointment rather than at drop-off. Depending on how tight it is, the answer may be a shorter cut than you wanted — that is the humane outcome, not a shortcut, and we will talk it through with you rather than decide it silently.
