Dog Grooming for West Hills, NY: Prices, Hours & Booking

West Hills is one of those Long Island places everyone local knows by name and not many websites bother with. It is an unincorporated hamlet in the Town of Huntington with no village government of its own, and searching for a groomer by the hamlet name tends to land you on directory pages rather than on an actual salon.

So here is the plain version. What grooming costs at our East Northport salon, when we are open, how booking works, and what we do not do.

Where West Hills sits

The Town of Huntington is the eleventh most populous town in New York State, with about 204,000 residents. It holds four incorporated villages — Asharoken, Huntington Bay, Lloyd Harbor and Northport — and eighteen unincorporated hamlets. West Hills is one of the eighteen. So are Dix Hills, Melville, Greenlawn, Elwood, South Huntington and East Northport, where our salon is.

Even the school lines cut across it. Half Hollow Hills Central School District covers most of Dix Hills and Melville, plus Wheatley Heights and parts of West Hills and South Huntington. If you have ever tried to explain to somebody from off the Island exactly where you live, you already know the shape of this problem.

Why the hamlet name is a poor search term

Google's search box has already learned which local names people type. It completes phrases for Huntington and Huntington Station, Commack, Northport and East Northport, Dix Hills, Melville, Smithtown and Kings Park. Those are the names the machinery knows, which makes them the names worth typing.

The other half of the problem is what comes back. Run a query as ordinary as "dog groomer East Northport NY" and the first page is Yelp, Care.com twice over, Nextdoor, Instagram and a handful of listing sites, alongside competitor homepages. Not one editorial page written by a salon appears anywhere on it. If a straightforward town-plus-service search looks like that, a quieter hamlet name is not going to do better.

What it costs

We publish our prices, which is less common around here than it should be. An audit of eighteen Long Island grooming salons, read straight off their own websites, found seven offering online booking and three publishing any pricing at all. Among fixed salons in the Huntington, East Northport and Commack area, none publishes prices; on Long Island the groomers who do put ranges on a page are the mobile services.

Where your dog lands inside those ranges depends on weight, smallest to largest — not on the neighborhood you drove in from. If the coat is heavily matted, expect the groomer to talk to you before starting, because matting changes what is physically possible and not only what it costs.

Booking happens online. Pick the service, pick a time, done — no phone tag and no waiting for a callback. And it is worth saying plainly: we are closed Sunday and Monday. East Northport runs five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday, 9 to 5.

One honest redirect. Our East Northport shop is grooming only — there is no daycare, no boarding and no retail counter here. Our Ronkonkoma salon at 835 Portion Rd does all three, is open seven days, and is a short drive away. If what you actually need is somewhere for your dog to stay, go there instead.

What we groom, and what we don't

We also will not promise a medical outcome. A groomer has hands on your dog's whole body for an hour, so we notice things — a lump that was not there in spring, a hot ear, a sore spot under a mat. We tell you what we felt and where. Then you call your vet, because that is their job and not ours.

Parks, permits and ticks

West Hills sits inside the Town of Huntington, which means the town's own facilities are open to you. The town runs an off-leash dog run at the Huntington Animal Shelter, 106 Deposit Road in East Northport — roughly two-thirds of an acre with waste stations, a shade and rain pavilion, and running water. It is open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and weekends 9am to 4pm. The permit is free but requires town residency, a licensed dog and a current rabies vaccination, and it is picked up at the shelter office past the dog park. Dogs must be spayed or neutered and at least four months old, two dogs per visit maximum.

For leash walking, the town names Dix Hills Park Woodland Trail, Sunshine Acres Park's upper paved path in Commack, Frazer Drive Park in Greenlawn, Phragmites Park in Centerport and the Jerome Ambro Memorial Wetlands Preserve in Northport. Leashes must be six feet or shorter. Town code keeps dogs off all town beaches except the paved areas and boardwalks, which surprises people every summer.

Wooded ground means ticks. The New York State Department of Health tracks them in two fixed seasons: nymphs from May through September, adults from October through December. In Suffolk County in 2025, nymphal deer tick density measured 61.04 ticks per 1,000 square meters, with 26.6 percent carrying the bacterium that causes Lyme disease. Adults collected that October through December tested positive at 52.8 percent, roughly double the nymph rate. Early August sits inside the nymph window; the adult surge arrives in the fall.

A groomer's job is to notice and tell you. A vet's job is to diagnose.
