Huntington Station, Huntington, South Huntington, Huntington Bay. Four names, four slightly different sets of search results, and not one of them a clean map of where anything actually is. If you have ever had to explain to somebody which Huntington you meant, you already know the problem. It only starts costing you time when you are standing in the kitchen with a matted dog, typing "groomer" into your phone.

So here is the plain version of who we are, what it costs and when we are open, with nothing you have to call to find out.

The name on the sign is not a map

Place names around here were mostly set by the railroad and never tidied up afterwards. The clearest example is in our own hamlet: the LIRR station called Northport is physically in East Northport, at Larkfield Road and Bellerose Avenue, on the Port Jefferson Branch. Greenlawn is the next station west.

East Northport itself is named after a timetable decision. The LIRR moved the Northport station east in 1868, conductors started calling the spot "east of Northport," and the name attached itself to the whole hamlet. There is still a historical marker on Larkfield Road, north of the tracks, for the trolley that ran from there down to the foot of Main Street in Northport between 1902 and 1924. Larkfield Road has been the commercial spine ever since; before any of it, the settlements here were called Larkfield and Clay Pitts.

The practical consequence is simple. When you search for a business "near Huntington," you are searching near a name, not near a point you picked, and two salons that both look local on the results page can be inconvenient in opposite directions. Before you commit to a standing appointment, look at the street address.

Huntington Station is a hamlet, not a village

The Town of Huntington is the eleventh most populous town in New York State, with about 204,000 residents. Inside it there are exactly four incorporated villages — Asharoken, Huntington Bay, Lloyd Harbor and Northport — and then eighteen unincorporated hamlets, including Huntington Station, Huntington itself, South Huntington, Melville, Dix Hills, Greenlawn, Elwood, Centerport, West Hills and East Northport.

That is why nothing lines up neatly. Hamlets have no borders you can see and no village hall, and the ZIP codes spill past where people assume the boundary is. East Northport is a hamlet and census-designated place of 20,048 people across 5.15 square miles, ZIP 11731, bordered by Northport to the north, Commack to the south, Greenlawn to the west and Fort Salonga to the east.

One more thing worth knowing if you are coming from the Huntington side: the Town of Huntington's own off-leash dog run is at 106 Deposit Road, East Northport — same hamlet, same ZIP as the salon. It is open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and weekends 9am to 4pm, and entry needs a free Town permit, a licensed dog and current rabies vaccination.

Bath & Brush or a full groom with haircut?

It is a fair question to settle before you book, and plenty of dogs do not need the more expensive one. Choosing correctly is the easiest money you will save all year.

A haircut breed genuinely does need cutting on a rhythm. Once a coat mats down to the skin, the humane answer is a short haircut, not an hour of dragging a slicker brush through a dog that has stopped enjoying its life — and the mat, not the groomer, decides how short it has to go. If your dog turns up matted, we will tell you honestly what the options are before we start rather than after.

Prices, published, by weight

We price by the dog's weight, because weight is what actually drives how long a groom takes and how much bathing, drying and product it uses. Not by breed name, and not by a number invented at the counter while you stand there.

Within each service the smallest dogs sit at the bottom of the range and the largest at the top, stepping up through weight bands. Both ranges are published on our website, so you can work out roughly where your dog lands before you go anywhere near a phone.

Worth knowing about this market: of eighteen Long Island salons audited from their own websites, only seven offered online booking and only three published any pricing. Around Huntington and East Northport, the businesses publishing ranges are mobile services rather than salons. We would rather you knew the numbers before you got in the car.

East Northport is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9am to 5pm. We are closed Sunday and Monday. That is five operating days a week, and we would much rather say so plainly than have you drive over on a Monday and find the lights off.
