If you have ever gone looking for a groomer at nine on a Sunday night, you already know how it usually ends. You find a salon, you find a phone number, and that is where it stops until the week starts again. Our East Northport booking does not work that way: you can pick a date and a time yourself, from your phone, at whatever hour you happen to be thinking about it.

The short version

Book online at lillianruffpetspa.com/grooming and choose the East Northport salon. Have a rough weight for your dog, and decide whether you want a bath and brush or a full groom with a haircut. Pricing is published by weight: $35 to $120 for a bath and brush, $70 to $155 for a full groom.

Why so few salons around here let you do this

We audited 18 Long Island grooming businesses using nothing but their own public websites. Seven offered any form of real online booking. Three published any pricing at all.

There is a reason for that, and it is not laziness. A grooming salon is not an office. On a normal Tuesday the people who would answer the phone have both hands on a wet dog, or a pair of shears open near an ear. You cannot put a dog down mid-groom to take a booking. So the phone rings out, you leave a message, someone calls back in the middle of your afternoon, and the week you wanted is gone before the two of you ever actually speak.

The cost of that lands on the customer every time. And when prices are not published either, you end up calling just to learn what a groom costs. Those two problems stack: you cannot compare, and you cannot commit.

Two things to sort out before you book

Almost every hesitation we hear about booking online comes down to one of these. Get them straight in your head first and the rest is quick.

Roughly what your dog weighsGrooming here is priced by weight, not by breed. A close estimate is fine — you do not need a scale reading. If it has been a while, the weight from your dog's last vet visit is usually the easiest number to lay hands on.
Roughly what the coat is doingLoose and brushable, thick behind the ears and under the collar, or genuinely matted. You are not diagnosing anything. You are telling us whether this is a routine groom or a longer, gentler job.

That second one matters more than people expect. A matted coat is not a brushing problem, it is a time and comfort problem. Mats sit flat against the skin and cannot be combed out without pulling, so a badly matted dog often needs clipping shorter than the owner had in mind. If we know in advance, we plan for it. If it turns up as a surprise on the table, we have to stop and have that conversation with you mid-appointment.

Bath and brush, or full groom?

This is the one real choice, and it is simpler than it sounds. It is not about how fancy you want the dog to look. It is about whether the coat sheds or grows.

ServiceChoose it whenPublished price
Bath & brushThe coat sheds and holds its own length — labs, shepherds, beagles, most short coats and most double coats.$35 to $120 by weight
Full groom with haircutThe coat keeps growing and has to be cut — doodles, shih tzus, poodles, maltipoos, bichons.$70 to $155 by weight

Both ranges are published by dog weight, smallest to largest, on the grooming page. That is the whole point of publishing them: you can work out roughly what you are committing to before you commit to anything, instead of finding out at pickup.

Still unsure? A shedding dog put through a haircut is a mistake you can see for months afterwards. A growing coat given only a bath keeps growing.

Booking online is not about being modern. It is about not needing to be free at the same moment we are.

Which salon you are booking

We run two salons and they are not interchangeable, so it is worth a second's attention. East Northport is 16 Laurel Rd, open Tuesday through Saturday, 9am to 5pm, grooming only. The other is in Ronkonkoma, a short drive away, with its own calendar.

Closed Sunday and Monday

East Northport runs Tuesday to Saturday. Booking online means you can arrange the appointment on a Sunday evening — it does not mean we are open on one. We also do not promise same-day, walk-in or after-hours grooming, so book for the week you actually want rather than the day you need it.

When we are not the right call

Worth saying plainly, because it saves you a trip.

Book East Northport for

  • A bath and brush, any size dog
  • A full groom with a haircut
  • Regular upkeep on a doodle or any coat that grows
  • A first groom for a dog that has never been done before

Look elsewhere for

  • Cats — we do not groom them
  • Daycare or overnight boarding, which East Northport does not offer
  • Creative coloring or show grooming
  • Anything medical — that is a vet visit, not a groom

If daycare or boarding is what you actually need, our Ronkonkoma salon offers both, seven days a week. Different address, different booking, same company.

East Northport

We are on Laurel Road, in the hamlet of East Northport in the Town of Huntington. If you are coming from Northport village, Elwood, Greenlawn, Commack or Fort Salonga, you are inside the same corner of Suffolk County. The East Northport salon page has the address and the hours in one place.

Questions people actually ask

Why is grooming priced by weight rather than by breed?

Because weight is the honest predictor of how long a dog takes and how much product, drying and handling the job needs, and because two dogs of the same breed can be very different animals. Breed names also get slippery fast — a doodle can be anything from 15 to 90 pounds. Weight is something you can check and we can check, which makes the published ranges mean something.

What is the difference between the two salons?

Ronkonkoma keeps its own calendar, so the thing worth checking when you book is that the salon selected is the one you mean. Ronkonkoma is open seven days and does daycare, boarding and retail alongside grooming. East Northport is grooming only, Tuesday to Saturday.

My dog is anxious, or elderly. Should I still book online?

Yes, and then tell us. Put it in writing wherever you are given room to, and say it again at the door when you drop off. Age and nerves change the pace of a groom and sometimes the finish we aim for. We are not going to push a senior dog through a long styling session to hit a look, and we would much rather know before we start than work it out on the table.

It is my dog's first ever groom. Does that change anything?

Mostly it changes expectations. A first groom is as much about the dog learning that the bath, the dryer and the table are survivable as it is about the finish. Tell us it is a first when you book, keep the drop-off calm and brief, and be open to a simpler cut this time than the one you have in your head for later.

How do I change or cancel an appointment?

Get in touch with the salon as early as you reasonably can, using the details on the East Northport page. A grooming appointment is a person's block of time rather than a table in a restaurant, and East Northport only has five operating days a week, so an unused slot is time we cannot give to another dog.

Do I have to book online, or can I still call?

Online is there because it is usually easier, not because it is compulsory. The salon details are on our East Northport page if you would rather speak to someone. The calendar simply means the option exists at ten at night, when the salon is shut.
